In France, half of the CO2 emissions are generated by central heating and domestic hot water, in the entire building sector.
Old housing in France consume on average 4 to 6 times more than new constructions which consume 50kwhep/m²/year according to the RE2020.
If the heat pump is the solution for heating by dividing energy consumption by 4 while reducing CO2 emissions by 80%, and if the heat pump will replace gas and oil boilers with low energy efficiency (4 to 5 times lower), its development may be hindered by its physical limits:
Problems, for the traditional two-stage hugh temperature HP : high maintenance costs, cycling problem which deteriorates the theoretical coefficient of performane (COP), limited lifetime and high CAPEX.
The use of greenhouse gas refrigerants requires specialized installers, that implies margin stacking which locks access to a large majority, and has a strong impact on the consumer selling price.
"You knew solar energy, hydraulic energy, wind energy, now you will have to rely on the energy of sound."
Acoustic waves are generated and amplified automatically in our machines by temperature gradient or by electricity. They do a compression-expansion work in the manner of a piston in a thermal engine or in a compression machine used to produce heat or cold, which makes it possible to carry out ultra-efficient heat pumping, without moving parts and without greenhouse gas refrigerant.
Compression produces heat
Expansion produces cold
Gain up to 20% thanks to a better thermodynamic cycle associated with acoustic modulation
Quiet (below 30 dB)
Simple control, no cycling effect
Neutral gas, He, (GWP=0), F-Gas and Reach compatibility
Doubled lifespan
Can be installed by a plumber or heating technician
Gas is neither flammable nor explosive
No wear parts in the core
Easy access to high temperature (>50°C)
The only heat pump 100% made in France
Et par rapport à une chaudière à gaz traditionnelle
EQUIUM is a unique entrepreneurial adventure that is developing every day thanks to a complementary team with a strong experience in innovation processes, design, development of breakthrough technological products, acceleration and industrialization of technological innovation and HVAC industry.
The scientific aspects are supported by the CES from Mines Paris Tech and the LIED PIERI, major university partners in heat transfer and thermoacoustics. Two councils (strategic and scientific) support the company, notably with extensive experience in the field of heat pumps, energy and high-tech industry.
Comment manager une startup deeptech en résonance ?
Entrepreneur from over 18 years of experience, expert in innovation through design thinking, Cédric founded EQUIUM to develop an impactful and scalable solution to energy and climate transition that the world is facing.
With over 30 years' engineering experience in design and methods offices in the automotive industry (engines, high-pressure pumps, solenoid valves, notably for PSA Peugeot Citroën, Siemens Automotive, Continental) and in the high-end audio acoustics sector (DEVIALET speakers and connected loudspeakers). I actively contributed to the scale-up of 3 start-ups, recruiting and setting up the organization and technical expertise needed to industrialize demanding products with ambitious timing and without compromising on quality. I joined Equium with enthusiasm to take up this 4th challenge in the key field of heat pumps for our future.
After 10 years of R&D in the aeronautics sector, François-Xavier joined the HVAC sector in 2011 to develop new ranges of thermodynamic machines and upgrade existing ranges. At the same time, as part of a project-based approach, he works with customers to build customized solutions that meet the specific requirements of each operation. Convinced of the importance of Made In France and the benefits of the acoustic approach, he joined EQUIUM to develop the acoustic heat pump.
Philippe has 10 years of experience supporting technological innovations related to the energy transition through his previous experiences in both public and private research. He has specialized in strategic and operational B2B marketing and decided to embark on an entrepreneurial adventure focused on a project with a positive impact. Consequently, he naturally joined EQUIUM as a Product Marketing Manager. In this role, he is responsible for listening to the market and the company's partners to guide technological developments and define the go-to-market strategy.
